Optimize Employment for Everyone : An Introduction

The traditional route to employment, through winning job competitions, does not work for those under-represented in the labour market as they are often screened out of job competitions. These job seekers will not be successful overcoming these systemic barriers to employment on their own, so efficient and effective employment services are critical. Employment Service organizations need to blend job seeker and employer interventions to ensure there is synergy amongst the professionals working with job seekers (i.e. Employment Counsellors), and those working with employers (i.e. Job Developers). This means job seekers should not be “handed-off” from one professional to the next, they need to work together to build the job seeker plan and support the implementation.
